I don’t really remember writing this song, 8 years ago. I feel like it just came to me; flowed into my mind like a gift from heaven.

I know that the scripture that inspired the idea for me was Luke 2:35 when Simeon says to Mary “Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also”.

In 2016, my brother Stephen unexpectedly passed away, ten days before Christmas. His 28 years on earth ended when a drunk driver hit him head-on on highway 80. 

It was a devastating time for our family. 

I felt like a sword had pierced through my mother’s and father’s souls. 

While we found comfort ultimately in Jesus Christ, in the knowledge of the plan of salvation, and of eternal families bound together by covenants, one of the small things that brought comfort to my soul was this song. 

I never would’ve thought when I wrote it a couple years earlier that I was helping bring peace to myself during a difficult trial. 

The message from the angel to “fear not” was given to Mary, to the shepherds, and unto "all people". 

It was given to us. 

I wish the angel’s invitation to trust in Jesus could have sunk deeper into my brother’s heart before he died. He struggled, with his faith in God; he was bitter against him and life in general, and had separated himself from the church. He had fears; he had doubts. 

This song is a reminder that we all have those doubts and fears, but if we trust, we can have joy, for we have Jesus, the Savior of us all.
